The Masque of the Red Death, by E A Poe, whispered, asmr.

This is one of the most powerfully atmospheric stories ever written. Basil Rathbone did it best, and Vincent Price second best (your experience may vary) but I thought I'd give it a shot any way.

Criticise my Italian
Просмотров 123Месяц назад
So I am learning Italian. At home via the internet. I need constructive feedback so please, tell me where I am going wrong, tell me where I am going right, and tell me what words I have mispronounced. It would be a great help. The recording is the first two paragraphs of John Langan's Technicolour, and the translation is by Andrea Bonazzi.

    After reading the first comment, that people were unkind, I decided to listen. I think it is better to be an outsider. It is not the voice that counts, but how the story is narrated, then the story comes alive. Many of our best singers do not have the stereotype good voice. Many mocked Greg Marguerite, who was a great guy. The voice grows on you as you listen. It is in the passion. better to be an outsider like our friend H P Lovecraft. I am 7 mins in and it sounds great.

      @@MorganScorpion Yes, that's certainly true. I've been wanting to try something in the vein of ASMR for a while though, so I may give it a go - would have to be something short and something I'm not going to get struck for (had to take down my narration of Who Goes There recently, by John W. Campbell - his estate filed a claim with RUclips). I'll see what I can find, it would have to be the right thing, I think. Hope all is well. :)

    Hi Morgan. I was struck by Mr. Tessier saying that the movie, Them, was the first movie that really scared him. Me too! I saw it in increments during middle school lunch hours. The fact that it was black and white made it scarier, and I still think of it as a classic and very scary. 😱

    Constructive criticism: too many kinda glottal stops and hard esses in the reading for my taste, a bit too emphatic staccato, but... Still one of the best I've heard, and appropriate to the subject. (I find 'The Outsider' along with 'The Rats in the Walls' and 'The Haunter in the Dark..' to be HPL's best, imho, of course.) Bottom line is that I fell asleep to this reading. Who knew that 'The Outsider' could be ASMR?

    • @MorganScorpion
      @MorganScorpion Месяц назад

      Thank you! Interesting. I grew up with a Devonshire accent which includes the glottal stop. I thought I'd lost that trait, but it seems it emerges when I whisper.

      @@MorganScorpion Oh that makes sense! Now I see (hear) it.... But- could you do 'The Hound'- I think that rally fits your style (or maybe that's just because it's one of my fav HPL stories). I read it in a book of short stories that I stumbled on when I was maybe 11 years old... that and 'The Rats in the Walls'- I didn't sleep for days, and hearing that whispered... Yikes. 😬 Anyway, Cheers! Edit- I just got that those stories are all about alienation, fig and lit. Ha! I learn something every day.

  • @mtoffo2275

    It's definitely a nice starting point to build on 😁 I think what makes it hard to understand at times is that you tend to move the stress of the words and so it is harder to perceive the natural flow of the sentence, and I would argue that the flow is more important than the pronunciation of the individual words. Unfortunately the stress in Italian words is seldom where it would be in English (Italians have the same but opposite problem when learning English)

    • @MorganScorpion
      @MorganScorpion Месяц назад

      Thank you very much. I need to listen to a lot more spoken Italian. Maybe I can find some audiobooks on RUclips in Italian with the words written on the screen, follow along and learn where to put the stress that way.

    Good! Understandable, even better than many English people living in Italy. Of course some words are more problematic for those who do not know spoken Italian, in those cases where the accent falls on the first syllable such as ‘ditelo’ (dìtelo), ‘tenebre’ (tènebre), ‘occupa’ (òccupa). In some cases the opposite occurs: ‘antico’ (antìco instead of àntico). Even native speakers, including actors, often mark the correct accents on the reading sheet in order not to confuse words that are the same but have different meanings when accented differently, and to keep the rhythm.
